The valid celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation requires that each candidate freely request reception from the Bishop. Therefore, all canidates must write a letter to the Bishop to make this request. Please keep in mind that this is a LETTER and not an essay. See below for instructions.
Update: We are offering a Letter Writing workshop on Sunday, March 21st to help those who would like the extra help. The new deadline for the bishop's letter is Wednesday, March 24th.
The Bishop will read your letter. Please include the following in a letter to Bishop Edward J. Burns:
Dear Bishop Burns (this is an appropriate way to address him in your letter)
Your name, age/grade, parish (St. Gabriel) and Program (Fusion, Family Faith Sharing Community, Home Centered, High School Youth Night or Catholic School).
Why do you feel you are ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation?
What Saint did you choose? Explain as to why you would like to be like them.
Talk about your personal experiences this year:
retreats
Your missionary Discipleship experiences and their impact on your life as a Catholic Christian
some other faith experience
Specifically request to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
All letters are to be typed or neatly and legibly written in ink.
Parents, please proof the letter.
Do not mail the letter to the Bishop. Letters should be submitted in PDF format using the form below.
